AI can’t write poetry
For it’s created in the soul
The pulse of our heart and the warmth of our skin
The feel of the earth on our bare feet
And how I howl like a wolf in celebration and in ache
AI can’t write poetry
for it’s the stuff of the soul the way the wind blows your curls across your face and your crooked smile when you’re up to no good
AI cant misbehave with integrity
And swallow its pride and remember what its like to be human
To be of this earth and to return to it
Those last moments before the heart stops beating the ones that can last for years or a mere blink
To know what it’s like to be alive
To smell the salt in the ocean air and know the wisdom of the ancient trees
The ones that have stood long before you or I came to be
AI can’t write poetry
For it is the soulless the faceless and has no pulse
Regurgitated flowery words that hold no depth
Empty shallow
Void
Unlike the song of the swan or how it sometimes take something tragic to make us find ourselves in our lives again
It’s shouldn’t but it often does
There’s something about the heart breaking that wakes us
But I think we can find the waking in the joy too
If only we’d remember
AI can’t write poetry for it has no soul
Has never birthed or been birthed
Experienced death or rose from the ashes of what once was
There’s no grit
No resilience
No memory or remembering the deep bone knowing
Unlike you and unlike me
